How to create a championship— step-by-step guide

What is a championship?
A championship is a live quiz game. You show the questions on a big screen (a projector, TV or shared screen), and players answer on their own phones or computers. Faster correct answers earn more points, and a leaderboard shows the winners at the end.
Players don't need an account. A PIN and a nickname are enough to join.
1. Prepare a quiz
A championship is built from one of your own quizzes. If you don't have one yet, create it first with the Quiz Builder.
Only these question types are used in a championship:
- Single choice
- Multiple choice
- True / false
Anagram, fill in the blank and match pairs questions are skipped automatically.
The quiz's Points per question and Time per question settings are used for scoring. If the quiz has no time set, each question gets 30 seconds.
2. Create a championship
You can start from either of two places:
- In the main menu choose Discover → Championships and click New championship, then search for your quiz by title
- In Workspace → My Library, click the Championship button on a quiz card
3. Choose the settings
- Championship name: optional. If you leave it empty, the quiz name is used
- Override time per question (seconds): optional, minimum 5. Leave it empty to use the quiz's own time
- Answer symbols on phones: how answer options are marked on players' screens:
- Shapes ▲■●◆
- Letters A B C D
- Room theme: the background and look of the game screen
- Manual step through questions: each question stays on screen until you click Next question yourself. Useful in a classroom when you want to discuss each answer. The question timer still counts for scoring
Click Create. The championship lobby opens.
4. Let players join
The lobby shows three ways to join:
- PIN: a 6-digit code. Players open the join page shown under Or go to and enter the PIN
- QR code: click Get QR, and players scan it with their phone camera
- Link: copy the join link and send it to players directly
Each player picks a nickname and an avatar, then waits in the lobby. You can see everyone who has joined under Players.
The PIN stays valid for 2 hours.
Before starting, you can still change the settings with the Settings button.
5. Run the game
When everyone is in, click Start Championship. At least one player must have joined.
- The question and its options appear on your screen, and players see the answer buttons on their devices
- After answering, each player instantly sees whether they were right and how many points they earned
- Pause / Resume: stops and restarts the timer. Not available in manual mode
- Next question: moves on without waiting for the timer
- Expand: shows the game full-screen, which works best on a projector
6. How scoring works
- A correct answer earns between 50% and 100% of the question's points. The faster the answer, the more points
- A wrong answer earns 0 points
- An answer after the time runs out earns 0 points, even in manual mode
- Multiple choice: counts as correct only if every correct option is selected and no wrong ones
Example: if a question is worth 10 points and has 20 seconds, a correct answer in 2 seconds earns about 9.5 points, and a correct answer in 18 seconds earns about 5.5 points.
7. Results
After the last question, the Final results leaderboard shows the winners. Players see their own place and score on their devices.
If nobody answered any question, the championship is marked as not having taken place.
8. Past championships
All your championships are listed under Discover → Championships. You can search by name or PIN.
- Details: the settings that were used
- Report: the full leaderboard of a finished championship
- New championship with this quiz: runs the same quiz again
- Delete session: removes the championship from your list
Limits
The number of championships per month and the number of players per championship depend on your plan. See Plans for the current limits. The limit applies to the host's plan, so players never need a paid plan.
